Local Girl Guides Make RTE’s News2Day

Modern life is picking up rubbish…

e the holy, at this rate, we might as well all just move our kids into the apartments around RTE’s Donnybrook HQ.

After Dylan E. Crampton charmed young Turbidy last night, and St Laurence’s transformation into Hogwarts made the Six O’Clock news, it was the turn of our local girl guides to charm the country’s national broadcaster.

It was all part of the National Good Turn Week, with members of the Irish Girl Guides setting out to do – brace yourself – 84,000 good deeds over this week.

Running from April 1st to April 7th, the 12,000 girl guides around the country just had to do one good turn a day for the seven days, and that magical number was reached.

And the whole idea was to encourage others to follow suit. Just one good turn. Every day.

And whilst you’re at it, hey, pick up just three pieces of rubbish when you’re out and about too.

Before you know it, the place will be spic agus span, and your soul will be soaring with the simple joy of doing good.

It was RTE’s news2day bulletin that caught up with Irish Girl Guides from Greystones and Delgany on Friday, and it was once again St Laurence’s National School that provided the stage. The Ladybirds, Brownies and Guides decided to join the An Taisce Spring Clean for the day as part of their National Good Turn Week.

Ain’t no doubt about it, the next generation will one day put us all to shame. Except, of course, they’re all going to be too darn goodhearted to ever make us oul’ ones feel bad…
