Local Palestine Activists Welcome Israel War Bonds Removal

People Before Profit representative for Wicklow Kellie McConnell says removal of war bonds is major victory for Palestine Solidarity movement against profiteering of war and over Irish government inaction.

McConnell adds that the tenacity of activists is in stark contrast to the weasel words of Simon Harris.

Israel has announced that the Central Bank of Ireland will no longer authorise the sale of Israeli war bonds. Israel will also no longer sell their bonds in the Irish market.

North Wicklow Against Genocide co-founder and People Before Profit representative for Greystones, Kellie McConnell, said, “This is a major victory for the Palestine solidarity movement. The sustained pressure from activists in Ireland has forced Israel to move authorisation of the sale of their war bonds within the EU from Ireland to Luxembourg. Israel will also no longer sell their bonds in the Irish market”.

“I salute the activists that achieved this and I condemn again the complicity of the Irish government in their failure to act on this issue. The tenacity of the activists stands in stark contrast to the weasel words of Simon Harris and the government”.

“It is the global Palestine solidarity movement that has achieved this important win. It is that movement that will overcome the complicity of Western and other governments and it is the movement that will eventually achieve the disarming and dismantling of the state Israel”.

“This win is a boost for the Global Sumud Flotilla as it prepares to sail on Gaza to break the Israeli siege with People Before Profit TD Paul Murphy on board.

“We are buoyed by this news and more determined than ever to deliver humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza later this week.”
