t was way back in 2010 that Newtown’s Sam Bishop and four of his 
friends thought it might be a nice idea to have a little party with the neighbours.

It’s a goal that President Michael D. Higgins recognised, becoming a patron of Street Feast in 2016, and sending Sam and friends into a whole new level of engagement with local councils and government bodies. All quick to recognise the benefits of people of all ages breaking bread – and maybe even slurping a little wine – together.
It has certainly struck a chord in Greystones, where there are 22 Street Feasts planned for this Sunday, whilst Bray has 14, Delgany and Newtown have two each, whilst Kilpedder and Kilcoole have one apiece.
“Daly’s SuperValu and The Happy Pear have very kindly sponsored the Greystones Street Feast this year,” says Sam, “helping Sustainable Greystones and the Greystones Town Team get posters made, and basically spread the word. It’s clear that people are keen on being part of their community, and that just has such a positive knock-on effect on a neighbourhood, a town, a country…”
