Mental Health Clinic Opens At Waverly House

The Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly has welcomed the opening of Waverly House in Greystones which will be used to house the Community Mental Health Team.

The service, which had up until now operated out of Newcastle Hospital, will be open to see patients just off the Main Street in Greystones.

The Greystones CMHT is made up of a multidisciplinary team led by a Consultant Psychiatrist, but also includes medical, nursing, occupational therapy, social work, psychology, as well as individual placement support (IPS) staff.

The team works in close partnership with local GPs and other local healthcare, social care, addiction and rehabilitation services as well as voluntary support agencies and housing providers.

The team also has access to psychiatric inpatient beds at Newcastle Hospital.

Minister Donnelly said: “I recently met with the staff in Greystones at the new centre to see first hand the incredible work they are doing.

“Waverly House is an important step in transforming how we deliver healthcare in this country as it allows patients to be treated in the community.

“Patients will be able to undergo psychiatric assessments, medication reviews, physical health-checks, a wide range of psychological, occupational therapy at the centre.

“There will also be support in place to help them link in with housing services as well as look for employment.

“The dedicated team working there is entirely focused on enhancing the patient experience enabling them to access the right care, at the right time and in the right place.

“Ultimately, it is about bringing together a whole range of expertise to help patients recover and achieve a better quality of life.”
