ong before The Pizza Truck first parked its big silver arse down at The South Beach, Greystonians have been in love with Italy’s finest export.

Over the years, that love affair has seen a few restauranteurs even take that leap and put pizza front and centre.

Heck, the feckers even introduced us to garlic bread.

From Papa Mc’s Pizza Kitchen on Trafalgar Road to The Pizza Mill on Church Road, those pepperoni-popping pioneers paved the way for what we enjoy today.

Which is a town that, on a busy afternoon, looks like the world’s biggest outdoor food court.

And it would appear that pizza is becoming its leading light, with the likes of The Pizza Truck, the award-winning Enso and the world-dominating Domino’s all firmly established as Greystones favourites.

Which may explain why Declan has installed a woodfire pizza oven in the recently-vacated Mooch. And why the long-vacated 184 square metre unit beside Aldi is also going to be a woodfired pizza bakery.

The latter just got the thumbs up today from An Bord Pleanála, after Ronan O’Caoimh of Simon Clear And Associates appealed against Wicklow County Council’s no-fry-zone planning refusal on September 10th, 2021.

Which should make that site a much prettier sight later this year.

Ultimately, it’s great that new restaurants are opening in Greystones when there are so many closing around the country. Great, verging on miraculous.

So, eat and be merry – it does our world good.
