t’s been sitting pretty in Mount Usher for 40 years now, but David and Mary Strawbridge have decided it’s time to shut their doors for a final time.

Posting on their social media, the couple thanked all the customers and visitors over the years for being such a big part of their lives for four decades.

And it’s clear from the responses that this little shop around the Ashford corner will be missed.

Here’s what the couple had to say…

After over 40 years in business it’s time for a new chapter! We will therefore be retiring and closing the doors of Strawbridge on 28th February 2026.

We have thoroughly enjoyed being part of the community at the beautiful Mount Usher Gardens since 1985.

We have been blessed with our fantastic staff, both past and present. Our staff have become like family to us and we will dearly miss seeing them every day.

We have loved getting to know our customers over the years and being a small part of their lives. Strawbridge has often been described as a place akin to Aladdin’s cave, full of treasures; and while the beautiful pieces that we have sold over the years have also filled us with delight, we know that it’s not the products that make the business, it’s the people. So we would like to thank all of our wonderful staff and customers for being part of our journey as we move on to a new beginning. After a truly great run, new adventures await us!

Word on the tiny streets in the Mount Usher centre is that Avoca have plans to bring their own shopping emporium to the location, and they let it be known.
