Digging The Old Breed

t took place on one of the wettest weeks of the year, but still there were plenty of hardy souls at the recent St Crispin’s dig.

So, it was perhaps fitting that it was in the middle of another ridiculously wet November week that the finds were revealed last night at the Greystones Lawn Tennis Club.

With all the items bagged up, registered and, to the best of everyone’s knowledge, identified, it was archaeologist David McIlreavy – who oversaw the dig – who presented the facts, figures and broken figurines.

In attendance were many of the Greystones Tidy Towns gang, who had helped put the dig together, along with an appreciative audience, determined to get up close and personal with a little local history.

Sadly, there were no diamonds in among all the ancient artefacts. Although, the fact that McIlreavy arrived in a gold-plated Porsche with all-Muppet interior did raise some suspicions.
