John Glynn The Gavin Glynn Foundation
We received a massive amount of support from people from Greystones, Kilcoole, Delgany, Bray and all over the country.
We must continue now into 2017 to help as many families as we can. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone in our amazing local community for their support and ask that they all continue to spread the word of the work we do.
Always so much going on in Greystones; car boot sale’s in St David’s, movies at the Cove, and I attended an amazing evening about fashion in The Druids Glen Hotel for The Caroline Foundation. I spent some lovely evenings watching choirs galore in various venues around Greystones. I also attended the annual East Coast Radio Coffee morning, a fundraiser for cancer at the Beach House, a wonderful morning had by all. We had Ladies Day Out, GRAPE in the summer taking in the beautiful art on hand, the Boat Yard market, to name but a few. My 2016 would not be the same without a coffee from Tomas & Nadia in Caffe Delle Stelle and, of course, a visit to see my dear friend, Susie Kenny, in her wonderful shop, Paraphernalia! I spent time in my leisure centre, based in the Glenview Hotel, my haven and a great place to have time out. I walked by the sea taking in all the fantastic views Greystones has to offer, followed by the wonderful chicken wings in The Beach House. I could write forever about my 2016 in Greystones.

e’ll be rounding up an enormously eventful year for the good ship GG come New Year’s Day, but, for now, we thought we’d ask you, the good people of Greystones, about the kind of 2016 you’ve had.
It’s a year that seems to have been scripted by George R.R. Martin, the world going full Game Of Thrones as so many of our much-loved artists – from David Bowie to Carrie Fisher – were suddenly taken from us, whilst the likes of Jon Bon Jovi, Kim Kardashian and Crystal Swing spend New Year’s Eve without even a scratch on ’em.
The black and brutal heart beating at the centre of 2016 is perhaps best summed up by the simple fact this was the year that Mayor Quimby was elected President of the United States.
Trump is truly the dog that caught the car, making this one topsy-turvy world out there right now.
Thankfully, closer to home, life has been pretty darn sweet, with Greystones pretty much kicking 2016’s ass, thanks to movies on the beach, that shiny new marina finally bearing fruit, not a black tooth on our row of main street shops, and Joe Sweeney getting crowned Greystones Chip Champion once again.
Yep, there were more than enough little jolts of happy and loving rays of sunshine throughout the year to keep the town smiling from January to December.
Not that everyone is living a Coke commercial. There’s still work to be done, as witnessed by those in the town who are still crawling from the wreckage. For some, that 2008 recession rust took quite a hold, and the fact that Greystones has become just about the most desirable town in the country to live has seen rent here sky-rocket too.
Here’s hoping that we’re all not only wiser, but kinder, when it comes to recognising early the signs of impending economic hardships, not only for ourselves but for those around us. Certainly, when one stranger offers another their home to spend Christmas in, you know there’s always hope…
But, hey, enough of our yakking! What sort of year have you had? Let us know by either commenting below, or by emailing us [email protected]. In the meantime, we asked a few lovers, rockers, movers, shakers and chancers to let us know their reasons for being cheerful in 2016.
Being Greystones, we’re still waiting, nine days later, for a few lazy lumps to send in their replies. When they finally wake from the Christmas slumber, we’ll add them to the sexy, reliable, daringly handsome and sweetly punctual arselicks below…
Jessica Keating Doe Eyes
To Doe Eyes, for the sense of fulfilment,
To my colleagues, for their 100% commitment,
And to the bank, for the initial down-payment;
To the Bear Paw, their flat whites and sambos,
To the Horse and Hound, and their Coronas;
To rugby, for keeping me fit
And my body healing my never ending injuries – so that I wouldn’t have to quit;
To all who were part of my life this year, I’m grateful for all of you.
Cheers 2016, you were epic.
John Glynn The Gavin Glynn Foundation
Looking back 2016 has been an amazing year for The Gavin Glynn Foundation.
We received a massive amount of support from people from Greystones, Kilcoole, Delgany, Bray and all over the country.
From people dancing and singing, to running and taking part in triathlons, everyone helped as much as they could. Our superhero in the sky continues to bring people together in his name and give us all strength to help as many families from all over Ireland with children with cancer.
We must continue now into 2017 to help as many families as we can. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone in our amazing local community for their support and ask that they all continue to spread the word of the work we do.
Emma Tagliarino Dedicated to Geraldine Gilroy
My reasons to be cheerful in 2016 started with the word Greystones and ended with the word Greystones!! We have so much going in our beautiful town that we really don’t need to be anywhere but Greystones.
My year started with quite a busy ICA Delgany Guild. We got up to lots – day trips, a cruise on the Shannon, craft days, an opera outing and so much more. We had lots of laughs and very memorable times together, a great bunch of women all looking out for each other. I met my soul mate and best friend in the ICA in February 2016. Geraldine Gilroy (to whom I dedicate this) sat beside me at the ICA meeting in February 2016 and we are inseparable ever since.

To top it all, I got new fantastic next door neighbours – The Whooley Family! I could not have wished for better neighbours.
