Recognise This Local 1920s GAA Team…?

When we swung by the palatial Kilcoole home of the mighty Jack Clarke recently – to raid his incredible archive of local portraits – he was very keen that we send out an S.O.S. to de peoples over the shot above.

The S.O.S. in question being Spot Our Sods – or, to be more precise, name the faces on display in this striking, circa 1920 photograph.

The fact that this shot captures Wicklow’s first-ever GAA team, and features players from Delgany, Killincarrig, Greystones and a little beyond gives Jack hope that someone, somewhere in this godforsaken land of ours will recognise a relative or a very old friend.

The only person we know for sure here is the man with the moustache and the ball – that’s Jack’s uncle, Pat Clarke. After that, who the feck knows…
