The future is bright-eyed…

eing a stupidly busy day in Greystones today, we got down to the town’s 3rd School Strike For Climate Action down at Burnaby Park a little late.

People were packing up their placards, banners and bazookas just as we pulled up outside Greystones library.

Luckily, the Guide’s #1 roving photographer John McGowan had been down earlier in the day, to catch the protest’s high tide, and we have those pics awaiting your love and approval here.

All we needed to do on this afternoon was catch a few words from those soldiers still on the ground.

Having first taken over the town, and the world, on March 15th, and then again on May 24th, these midday protests were sparked by the now-iconic Swedish schoolgirl Greta Thunberg have helped bring climate change to the fore in the world’s media once again. 

That it should take our children to wake up the adults to the very real dangers the planet currently faces underlines the both the simplicity and the urgency of the climate change crisis. As one placard today stated simply, March Now Or Swim Later.

With this new generation comes a new determination to reach even the most stubborn of climate change deniers. Here’s hoping Barron William Trump will be joining the cause soon.

The daily onslaught of facts and the figures about just how fecked our planet is are often a little too overwhelming to fathom, and they make the need to concentrate on the positive, on the hopeful, all the more crucial. Which is where those pesky, unironic and non-sarcastic kids come in.

In the meantime, we caught up with proud parents Patricia, Fiona and Kevin down at Burnaby Park this afternoon, as their children set about making this world a safer place to live…
