Rise In Wicklow’s Homeless Figures

igures for Wicklow today revealed that 52 people requested emergency accommodation in June.

Which is once again a month-on-month rise in numbers that began in January.

That June total of 52 people accessing emergency accommodation in Co Wicklow in June 2022 is a rise of 1.6% on May’s figures, whilst there were 77 families seeking shelter across the Mid East Region and almost 10,500 people nationwide.

Crossing the 10,000 mark in June was the first time that dark milestone was passed since the start of the pandemic.

The figures released by the Department of Housing reveal that almost 1,400 families were recorded as homeless and over 3,000 children.

Dublin continues to have the highest numbers of people in emergency accommodation, with just under 5,000 adults and 950 children.

That’s followed by Cork, Galway, Limerick and Meath.

In April, 1,308 families used emergency accommodation, compared with 1,077 in December.

It’s worth noting that these numbers don’t include rough sleepers, women in refuge centres and those in direct provision.
