Eh, that’s pretty darn great…

e’s a man of many talents, our Shay, most of them well hidden, it would seem…

Very well hidden.

One that we discovered as we met up with the Delgany deity for our weekly ramble chats through local history is the man’s wicked way with a canvas.

Tackling pieces by Van Gogh and Monet, Shay creates his own particular version of classic paintings whilst also unleashing the “images in my head”.

Which, if you know Shay Clear, are definitely going to be multicoloured. Verging on kaleidoscopic, if not downright Boschesque.

We were lucky enough to be taken deep inside the batcave this afternoon, to see just where, how, when and why the Shay Clear magic happens.

As the bould Oscar Wilde wrote in The Decay Of Lying, ‘No great artist ever sees things as they really are. If he did, he would cease to be an artist‘. Which pretty much sums up Shay Clear’s approach to life. And history. 

He’s a complicated man, and no mistake.

Did you know, for example, that Shay was also a budding pop star in his youth, with a voice that would have made Marc Bolan swoon. And, most likely, sue.

Pop goes the easel, baby…
