no more.A fire on Wednesday evening – which had Church Lane closed to traffic for just over an hour – has seen the old building reportedly destroyed.

the property had fallen into serious disrepair. And on Wednesday, with firefighters struggling to bring the blaze under control, there was little they could do to save Sillan Lodge, according to one of those present.

If anyone knows the history of Sillan Lodge, we’d love to hear from you. According to neighbour Alan Kilduff (who provided our cover shot), it ran as a bed & breakfast for years before permission was granted for three new houses to be built in its place. Sold to the son of a developer for €2m just before the property boom went bust, the three plots made it difficult for the banks to sell.

were the banks the last to own it or was there a later owner who left it to rot
did someone else purchase sillan lodge after the property went bust in 2007 because I remember hearing that a later owner had permission refused in 2007 to change the property into a larger one.
Have sent you a message there. Work seems to have started on the site, so – either planning permission is a go, or someone’s getting it ready for the big exam.
