rganised by Women’s Aid and Allianz Insurance, a crowd of over 600 people gathered on Bray seafront today for #StandStrong.

A campaign to highlight domestic abuse in Ireland, this Bank Holiday Monday session of yoga and mindfulness fell fittingly on St Brigid’s Day.

Said Sarah Benson, CEO of Women’s Aid, “Through the #StandStrong movement we aim to drive greater awareness of the issue of domestic abuse, which affects 1 in 4 women in Ireland, from all backgrounds and ages, with wider, long-term effects on families and communities.

“I’d like to thank everyone who committed their time to be here today and show solidarity with victims of domestic abuse.”

Those attending were invited to hold the yoga warrior pose en masse, given that it’s a non-confrontational symbol of focus, confidence and courage. It’s pretty good for dealing with trapped wind too, we hear.

The hope is that #StandStrong will become an annual event on Ireland’s cultural calendar, aiming to ‘engage, educate and empower people to combat domestic abuse, remove stigma surrounding it, and drive for zero tolerance’.
