Boogie Bounce, Eh, Bounces Back!August 15, 2020
It’s hardly surprising that young Stephen Stokes has a big happy head on himself this evening.
Sure, hasn’t his one-man sponsored walk all along The Wicklow Way gone and raised a mighty chunk of change for Greystones Community First Responders.
Back on July 1st, the man walked 91.3396 miles, from Rathfarnham in deepest, darkest Dublin to Clonegal to County Carlow. And in so doing, he managed to raise €1,921.19.
Though, for the life of us, we can’t quite figure how the hell 19 cents got in there. Probably Bernie.
Margaret Duggan and the gang received the oversized and very welcome cheque this evening, telling the Guide, “Greystones Community First Responders would like to thank former Lord Mayor Stephen Stokes for recently completing this challenging, sponsored walk along the Wicklow Way on our behalf. We are very grateful to receive this money and appreciate the great effort and hard work Stephen put into this fundraiser.
“We are especially grateful to receive the money as we were unable to hold our annual fundraising table quiz due to Covid-19. This money will go towards the cost of maintaining the public access defibrillators in and around Greystones…”
The fact that the Greystones Community First Responders is an entirely voluntary and self-financed organisation makes such fundraising events are crucial for their survival. And, by extension, ours.
Well done to the young Stokes lad. And if you feel you can also help the First Responders gang, you can email them on firstname.lastname@example.org.
