A very fine day out… SAT29JULY23 John Hickey
he Greystones Rowing Club get around, of course, and on Saturday, it was their
turn to invite all their fellow wayfaring friends to their hometown.
Having returned last year after a two-year absence, the Greystones Rowing Club Regatta was blessed with not only a great big turnout but also that rarest of phenomenons…
A really fine, sunny and largely dry July day.
The fun kicked off with the cox meeting at 8.30am with the first race at 9am. In order of appearance, it was the Senior Ladies first, followed by Intermediate Men, Intermediate Ladies, U16 Boys & Girls, U12s, U14 Boys & Girls, U18 Boys & Girls, Mixed, Novice Men, Novice Ladies, Veterans, Junior Ladies, Junior Men and, finally, the Senior Men.
As to the winners’ table, Greystones came 2nd in the Inter Men and Inter Ladies, 3rd in the Mixed, and 2nd in U14 Girls, U18 Girls and U12s Boys.
With a long and proud history in the town, the Greystones Rowing Club hit a bit of a dry patch in recent years when it came to winning awards, but have pulled it back of late. So, they were gunning for glory on Saturday with plenty of fire in the belly.
And there to capture it all was the mighty, mighty John Hickey. Fair fecks, young man, John keen this morning to express his thanks to the Greystones Rowing Club for their hospitality.
You can check out the town’s previous regattas here, and explore the history of the Greystones Rowing Club here. If you want to find out more, you can always call Paddy Byrne on 0852242792.
