aving won quite a few awards already, Greystones’ oldest chipper has just picked up another beauty for the mantlepiece.

In something of a landslide, the sly agus mighty Sweeneys have come out way on top to take this year’s Greystones Yummiest Takeaway title.

And that’s up against some pretty stiff competition, given that Greystones has approximately 4,378 takeaways. Which almost half the number of coffee shops.

“This really means a lot,” says manager Paul Hayden, “as we’ve just gotten a new chef, Ken Bowe, and we’re constantly adding some new ideas alongside the old favourites on the menu.

“So, a big, big thank you to everyone who voted for us…”

It was actually a strange year for the annual takeaway award, perhaps because it’s an increasingly strained time for businesses in the town. Reigning champs Daata were AWOL for the entire voting process. Waseem must have been too busy making cunning plans for the difficult months ahead given that energy bills are now outstripping wage costs for many businesses across the country.
