County Council are about to dezone land for 3,000 houses in Greystones, Kilcoole and Delgany, Taoiseach Micheál Martin has issued a warning.

“We know, for example, that when you rezone a lot of land, not all of it gets used ultimately for housing,” continued Martin today. “So, even the national planning framework, in many respects, is limited enough. We felt that, but we had to publish it, get it done, get action, get momentum.
“We’re finding that many councils are dragging their feet on this and I’ve spoken to a number of CEOs, and I’ve told them that if they’re not going to do it, Government will do it directly.

Develop local industry so people do not have to commute into cities is a practical way to reduce housing pressure zones. Building houses in already over flowing commuter towns to Dublin is a short sighted approach. We need to protect the environment and preserve green space and cherish Wicklow’s and other towns beautiful natural amenities.
Let’s not forget that (aside from schools) every kids’ activity you could think of is at capacity, with some even closing waitlists.
The lag in infrastructure development is simply too large now. The town needs time to catch up with the existing population, never mind +3000 homes.
