On the one hand, tonight is just another
Wicklow Triple A Alliance AGM down at Hillside Church…
In truth though, after 10 years of being part of this crucial organisation that has brought autism in from the cold for so many, many families, tonight is something of a milestone for its chairperson.
After eight years at the helm, Alice has decided to let others grabbed the wheel, so she can take a well-earned rest.
A lot has changed over the 10 years since the Wicklow Triple A Alliance was founded by families living with Asperger’s Syndrome, Autism and ADHD. When founder Simon Harris realised his political life was becoming a little too demanding, Alice took over, with Simon’s younger brother, Adam, proving to be a major inspiration and help over the ensuing years.
Tonight, fittingly, Adam – founder of AsIAm, and one of the country’s most recognised spokespeople on autism – is the guest of honour for the Triple A AGM. And the two fine ladies, Aisling and Louise, who will be grabbing that steering wheel, were in attendance too.
All felt a mixture of immense gratitude for all that Alice has done for Triple A down through the years, and glad that she was now going to have time for her family. Everyone wished Alice well on her retirement from this rewarding but highly demanding position.
Just how far the work of Triple A has come over the past 10 years was just one of the subjects we spoke about with Alice as she prepared to say her goodbyes…

Super interview! Well done Alice – what a contribution you have made to your community. Looking forward to hearing what your next endeavours will be!
Alice, I have huge admiration for all your tireless work you do . You are the foundation of Triple A . Thank you for all your support and organisation.
Alice O Donnell is one of the most highly regarded educationalists in South Dublin and wicklow- the area she has served as a member of the INTO Education Committee for a number of years. When Alice speaks everyone listens and everyone promises to act. She has been an amazing INTO activist throughout her teaching career. Many of her colleagues have been fully aware of her work for Wicklow Triple A Alliance, many others have not known- because Alice would never seek the limelight. her whole mission as an educator is to improve the lives of everyone in the education sector- pupils, parents and teachers. She has made a real difference for families and for colleagues through her work with both organisations. Well done Alice. We hope you continue your involvement with INTO for another while. I’ve no doubt that the legacy you’ve left in Wicklow Triple A Alliance will impact greatly on many lives for decades to come.- John Boyle INTO Vice-President
What an amazing job you did Alice. You were always so helpful, generous with your time and expertise and so informed and proactive. The area has been so lucky over the years to have the Triple A Alliance and you at the helm over the last eight. I would say you can rest on your laurels, but from what I know of you, I would say that you will be kept busy helping others. Fair play to Aisling and Louise for taking on the role. With every good wish.
