e were chomping at the bit, of course, to lead The Horse & Hound’s bagging of our Best Eatery 2023 vote with a line about the gang winning by a nose.
And how spiffing to start quipping about their pipping the competition to the post.
In truth though, Mark and Mary’s Bellevue Restaurant won by a clear country mile, the obvious champ pretty much from the second the starting pistol sounded.
Not unlike in 2022, when the Horse & Hound’s stylish restaurant romped home with the big prize for the first time.
“It was a huge boost, winning last year,” says the woman of the house, Mary Molloy, “because heading out for a meal in Delgany is a little off-menu for those used to simply walking up Greystones’ main street and picking from the many great restaurants there.
“Winning the Best Eatery prize in 2022 though made us realise that there are quite a lot of people who see the Bellevue Restaurant as their favourite treat when going out to eat…”
“And winning it again this year,” says Mark Molloy, co-wrangler of the Horse, “well, that might be even more special, given that those people voted for us again alongside some happy new converts…”
When it comes to this double win, the couple are quick to heap thanks and praise on the Bellevue’s head chef Philip Moran and manager Mark Soutchott, along with the sterling cutting crew of Erin O’Dwyer, Sean Farrell and Carlotta Leda.
And this year, as with Rise At The Cove getting an honourable mention in 2022, we have to give a shout-out to The Horse & Hound’s resurrected neighbour, The Wicklow Arms, who clearly have their dedicated followers out there in 2023.
And big love to that sexy beast Jim Wood, for once again sponsoring this fine, upstanding competition. You can find out more about Woods Group Homes righthere.
