ell, hooray agus hurrah – that’s all we need down here at GG HQ.

Yet another free newspaper hitting the streets of Greystones – only this one is actually worth the paper it’s printed on.

Yep, those clever kids up at St Laurence’s National School have been busy over the past three months, putting together Scoop!. And, bejiggers, it’s a very fine read indeed.

Jampacked with news, gossip, jokes, reviews, quizzes, recipes, poems, exposés, pics and whatever-you’re-having-yourself, Scoop! is pretty much the perfect little newspaper.

And the fact that it’s been all put together by 10 perfect little kids from 5th and 6th class is pretty darn incredible.

It was two years ago that friends Andrew and Gavin first proposed a school newsletter up in St Laurence’s, and being the crack young editors that they are, work began a mere 21 months later.

Forming a 10-strong committee alongside fellow journalists Robyn, Finn, Caitriona, Isaac, Ruby, Lauren, Deaglán and photographer Aoife, the call went out across St Laurence’s for articles and features. And what came back was far above and beyond what anyone was expecting.

A guiding hand behind the project, even teacher Sineád Foley (the Literacy & Gaeilge co-ordinator at the school) was stunned by the quality of the work.

With Finn’s mum, Deirdre, designing the masthead, and Ruby’s mum, Francesca, handling the layout templates, Scoop! was soon hitting the streets. Well, when we say streets, we mean the little corridors up in St Laurence’s, of course.

As the printers rolled, we managed to grab 10 minutes with Andrew, Robyn, Gavin and Isaac to find out how Scoop! all came together, and when they might actually be ready to take over The Guide…
