Man Killed In Bray Shooting

aking place at 6.55am at Bray Boxing Club this morning, a shooting left one 50-year-old man dead and two seriously injured.

A lone gunman is reported to have walked into the gym and fired a number of shots.

With 12 to 20 people in the gym at the time, between six and ten shots were fired, with those injured including Greystones family man Mr Ian Britton, who was shot in the leg three times, and Pete Taylor – estranged father of the world-renowned boxing champ Katie Taylor, and the man who set up the club in 1995. Mr Taylor who was shot in the torso, and underwent surgery later that day.

The man who died, father-of-three Bobby Messett, suffered traumatic injuries and passed away at the scene.

None of the three men shot are believed to have been the intended target of the shooting, which gardaí are viewing as a botched attack. They are currently following lines of inquiry on local criminality.

The suspect left the scene in a VW Caddy van, abandoning the vehicle in Ringsend before cycling away.
