or new Greystonians, the idea that there was once a trailer park in the town might just come as a big surprise.

As will the fact that there was once affordable housing in Greystones.

Back in 2016 though, the 48 residents of Fairfield Park discovered that their landlord had big plans.

Big development plans.

This was a prime spot – nestled in behind Brady’s Hardware, minutes from the harbour, the DART, etc – and sure, a fancy-pants estate here would be a very natural fit.

And so it has come to pass, with DNG New Homes and Durkan putting 82 shiny new Greystones homes on the market this week, the first phase coming with a price tag of €490,000.

In a hard-hitting Irish Times piece by Tim O’Brien, Tim Durkan states he’s been “a bit obsessive” about Fairfield, the latest development from his family firm. A family firm who just happen to be celebrating their 60th year.

“We wanted to build something really special to mark that.”

Many of the original 48 Fairfield residents rehoused a year after getting that eviction notice in August 2016. Not long after, planning approval for 51 houses was met in June 2019 with strong opposition – and an appeal – from neighbours of the New Road site concerned about privacy.

But time and Wicklow planning wait for no man, and now the first 16 homes of 82 is being released this Saturday, September 9th.

A republic all to itself back in the day, Fairfield Park was a definite part of the old Greystones.
