Maiu gets a hero’s farewell

ven before Maiu Levi Lawlor stepped aboard the plane for this weekend’s Junior Eurovision final in Paris, the Greystones lad was a winner.

And his schoolmates at Coláiste Raithín made sure he knew it as they bid him bon voyage.

Taking place at La Seine Musicale on Sunday afternoon – and broadcasting live on TG4 from 3pm – Maiu’s feet haven’t quite touched the ground since arriving at the French capital on Monday. 

“On our first day, we were straight into rehearsals,” he explains. “Which I loved – especially given that they asked me to do backing vocals on the Junior Eurovision’s main theme.

“The following day, we were all taken on an open-top tour of Paris. Which is just an incredibly beautiful city, something that convinces me even more that this must all be a dream.”

A dream come true, it seems, as Maiu’s Saor has been making all the right kind of noises before tomorrow’s big showdown. And you can vote for Ireland’s entry here, with Maiu’s little brother, Reuben, ready and waiting in Paris to announce Ireland’s points.

“It’s a cliche, of course, but just being here and representing Ireland is a big win in my book,” says Maiu. “I’m going to give it my all on Sunday, singing it like I’m winning it.

“That way, I know I’ll be be able to head home to Greystones happy, and with my head held high…”
