oung Gordon Elliot from Killincarrig has been in touch about a new local eco group, Sustainability Stories.

Meeting on the fourth Sunday of each month at The Old School House in Delgany, the group does exactly what it says on the recycled tin.

They get together. And share stories of sustainability.

Here’s the lowdown on the hoedown…

Would you like to live more sustainably in 2023? Are you considering how best to stay warm, travel and eat while not costing the earth?

If you would like some local support and advice on this journey then Sustainable Stories in Delgany might interest you.

This new group is planning a short series of monthly meetings to chat about topics such as home heating and insulation, electric bikes and scooters. If there is interest, there will also be discussions about biodiversity, pollinators, eating sustainably, energy efficient travel and renewable energy.

The group has been started by Gordon Elliott, a software engineer living in Killincarrig, who says “I noticed I was having a lot of ‘I wish I could do something’ kind of conversations. Most people are acutely aware of the climate crisis and wish they could do something. I wondered if we could help each other to take action?

“There are many people locally who have first hand experience they are happy to share. They know what has worked and what has not. If we find we lack enough knowledge on a specific topic we can invite expert speakers along. That should arm people with the knowledge they need. But with busy lives, motivation can also be a challenge, so I also hope that people make use of the group for constructive peer pressure by sharing what steps they are going to take and then reporting back how they got on – warts and all.”

Meetings are in the Old School House in Delgany on the fourth Sunday of every month at 8pm.
