Currently in the second top division in the Leinster Senior League, Greystones took on Kilbarrack United on a fine Sunday built for football.
Our visitors were promoted as champions last season and have had a particularly good season so far. Which meant it was never going to be an easy match for the home team.
That said, Greystones United AFC have come a long way in recent years, battling their way out of regulation under previous manager, Martin Killilea – who retired at the end of last season – and a little help from new friends at Liverpool FC.
That said, Greystones United AFC have come a long way in recent years, battling their way This season, the lads have already played two away games, scoring a 1-0 win over Glenville on the opening day followed by a 1-1 draw in Athlone against Willow Park FC.
Plenty of local lads on the team today too, of course, including brothers Shane and Evan Thompson, David Crosbie, Keith McDonnell, Shane Evans, Conor O’Donovan, Thomas Gascoigne, Ian Cosgrave, Niall Dwyer and young guns Fionn Melia and Michael Gray.
Also joining in the fun was former junior Ireland international Carl Forsyth, part of the home team for the coming season.
