When The Going Gets Rough

e’ve had rainy day Christmas swims before, but 2021’s persistent downpour for once proved too much for many Greystonians.

Or maybe it’s just been that kind of year…?

Yep, when the going got rough, quite a few people decided to stay indoors today rather than suffer the stings and Arctic down at the town’s annual Christmas dip in The Irish Sea.

Not that everyone was huddled around the kettle. The town’s hardy perennials who swim each and every day throughout the year were all gathering down at their favoured splashing ground, The Cove.

It was still odd to see the South Beach completely empty at 11.30am on Christmas Day, given that even in the wet agus miserable 2017 and 2015, Greystonians came out in their droves. 

And their weatherproofs. But hey, that was back when we were young, and we still had hope.
