here was a time, not too long ago, when a fire at Windgates House would have caused uproar in Greystones.

Today, the stunning former home of the Fox clan is stunning no more, having let fall into a state of disrepair beyond repair.

And with Wednesday’s latest attack by the notorious Maguire & Patterson, it would appear inevitable that this once beautiful old building will soon return to dust.

Tours inside – in 2015 here, and 2018 here – reveal a house quite possibly beyond repair. Whoever steps in now will know that Windgates House needs one major kiss of life.

As recently as 2005 though, it was still a going concern, as these brochure pictures prove.

Back then, GG reader Brian Dempsey explains, “we had Windgates House for sale. It was in good shape for an old house – however, it rapidly deteriorated after the Fox family moved out.”
