t probably came as a surprise to no one but her opponent this afternoon, but Kaci Rock has just been crowned a National U22 Champion.
This means the Greystones boxer is now headed for Croatia in March, for the U22 Men’s & Women’s Boxing Championships.
Kaci’s opponent for title was five-time Irish champion Leanne Murphy from Togher, but with four Irish championship titles under her belt alongside the Elite Championship 2021 and the no.1 Welterweight in Ireland crowns, Ms Rock was set on a win today.
“I just went into that ring with my sights set firmly on this title,” she tells the Guide. “I’ve been training every single day for this, and nothing was going to stop me from winning today. Not even Leanne Murphy…”
Kaci won the match 3-2 whilst her Enniskerry Boxing Club buddy and sparring partner Daina Moorehouse was also crowned a National U22 champion after she beat Mulhuddart’s Chloe Gabrielle 5-0.
Bada-Boom! Bada-FLOOR!
We’ll be catching up with Kaci again – along with her boxing legend dad Jim – before that March flight. In the meantime, here’s our September ramble chat.
