hen it comes to our top-of-the-range, oven-ready, Grade A competitions in this town, we’ve come to realise one simple lesson.

Around here, it’s not so much who you know as how many.

Whether it’s our finest takeaway, our cutest baby, our most huggable dog or our artiest kid, the voting can get more than a little warped by every Uncle Tom, cousin Dick and grandma Mary being called upon to prove their family loyalty. And vote, vote, vote!

Which is why we’ve been steadily introducing select judges alongside the great unwashed and unashamed before crowning our latest local heroes.

Combining the two makes for a much fairer competition, and a far more deserving champ. Such as Brew With A View, who have scooped our Póg mo Cone search for a third year in a row.

“We’re very particular about our gelato,” smiles Renato upon receiving the award this morning from Paddy of Holohan’s SuperValu. “As we are with anything in Brew With A View. Everything has to pass our stringent yummy-yummy test…”

A big shout-out to Spendlove’s, Gino’s Gelato, The Fat Fox and Rise At The Cove, who each got a healthy chunk of votes this year.
