Having fought and won her own 12-year battle with anorexia, Fiona Morris has been banging the drum during Eating Disorder Awareness Week in the hope of helping others.

You might have seen Fiona’s interview in The Irish Independent on Friday. Or the article by her mum, Freada, for Lust For Life on Tuesday. Or the one from her dad, John, on Wednesday.
Then again, maybe you just caught the original article and the accompanying video from the woman herself that sparked it all back on February 27th.
All of which makes you realise that Fiona’s aim is true, and her determination to break the myths surrounding eating disorders, and to push for real change when it comes to the government’s tackling of the issue.
The key to it all is concentrating on the mind rather than the body. Which, of course, is harder than ever, given the rose-tinted, firm-buttocked self we all project on social media.
We caught up with a happy, healthy Fiona outside The Happy Pear this morning to talk about her own experiences, and her hope that the perspective of an insider looking out will help inform a better future for those facing a similar battle…
Articles recommended by Fiona include this female perspective from Ruth McMonagle, and this male perspective from an anonymous author. If you would like advice from Fiona, or feel that a Greystones Support Group is needed, you can email [email protected]. Pics by Pablo Photography.

Yay Fiona! Excellent interview and I 100% agree that eating disorders are a MENTAL HEALTH issue primarily. Shifting our perception away from LOOKING AT the problem to LISTENING TO the person with the problem is vital to creating more compassion and moving towards healing.
Thank you Fiona and Greystones Guide for speaking out on this 🙂 Em
Fiona you are a wonderful inspiration. Powerful stuff. I salute you.
