Happy days down at Greystones United AFC, where the establishment of a new women’s league means all those incredible female players finally have a national stage to perform on.
Which just goes to show you how far women’s football has come in this country. And this town.
Having started with a single girls football team five years ago, today, Greystones United AFC have 6 teams, ranging from U10 to U15.
With such commitment to girls and women’s football, the club’s application to join the first National League for U17 women has just been accepted. The dream now being, of course, that a Greystones girl will one day pull on the green jersey for the Ireland squad.
So, as the shout-out for girls born in 2000 or 2001 goes out to come on down and try their open training sessions – next one is Monday, April 30th at 7pm – we caught up with one of the club’s main off-the-pitch players, Declan Bollard, to find out more.
