Damien arrives in Greystones MON8AUG22

he original plan was for both Damien Wildes and Charlie Fleetwood to paddle their way across The Irish Sea and into the record books.

Few have attempted the crossing by SUP (that’s Stand Up Paddling, kids) and it turns out no one has done it by Prone board (basically Lazy-Ass Lie-Down Paddling).

In the end, Charlie couldn’t make it, and this evening, as the sun went down, Damien paddled his way into Greystones harbour.

And those record books.

“Completing the Prone crossing will be a world’s first,” said Damien, heading off from Holyhead at 6am on his long, long journey.

Backed by local boats, the crossing was also about raising money for three fine charities – namely, RNLI Wicklow, Purple House Cancer Support and Wicklow SPCA.

And to make sure this once-in-a-lifetime challenge makes a real difference, Damien and Charlie have set themselves the hefty goal of €15,000.
