Delgany Mast Hysteria Averted

ith the granted 35m communications mast at Kilcoole’s Holy Faith grounds currently going through the appeals process and another over at Grattan Evans’ farm, a new planning application at The Wicklow Arms has been refused by Wicklow County Council.

Pre-validation case no.2360228 at Wicklow Planning was deemed incomplete on August 30th, and then, one week later, Vantage Towers Limited applied once more.  

Vatantage were hoping to erect a 21m high multi-user mast in the Pigeon House corner of the Wicklow Arms car park.

And other than that, hey, they weren’t saying much.

The Cignal Infrastructure Ltd mast over in Kilcoole had the decency to be a fake pine tree – the illustrations and plans for Vantage Towers Limited suggested a standard-issue steel pole, akin to O’Connell Street’s Stiffy By The Liffey.

Only without tourists stopping by to take selfies. Something Pigeon House will be very aware of.

The bould Cignal have tried Delgany in the past, applying for an 8.5m flagpole replica telecommunications support structure in December 2018 that got short shrift from the neighbours and Wicklow Planning.

How a telecommunications mast almost three times that high would have been received by Delganites, well, let’s just say there might have been a few dents on the pole by the end of week one.
