Donal’s Magnificent Homecoming

We have touchdown…

ep, the sun came out, and so did the crowd, as Kilcoole rolled out the red carpet for their local hero, Donal O’Mahoney, the gold medalist in the Pentathlon at the 2015 Special Olympics in Los Angeles.

The plane landed late, of course – look out, it’s Aer Lingus! – but that didn’t stop the buzz in the town as they waited for their most famous son to return.

And what a return, Donal looking very much at home in a swanky open-top BMW, as he waved to family, friends and neighbours. 

And given that pretty much everyone from Kilcoole and the surrounding area turned out today, there was a lot of waving to be done.
