East Wicklow Rivers Trust Host First Meeting

The recently-established East Wicklow Rivers Trust (EWRT) is holding its first public meeting and would encourage anyone who is interested in the protection of Wicklow’s rivers to attend.

Luke Drea, Chair of the EWRT said “The EWRT is a charitable organisation whose aim is to protect, conserve and improve, with the help of local communities, our riverine systems in East Wicklow. We have been set up with the support of the Local Authority Waters and Communities Office and the Rivers Trust Organisation and our remit covers all rivers that rise in Wicklow and empty into the Irish Sea off County Wicklow.”

“Our voluntary Board of Directors is made up of people with expertise in riverine and ecological management, community engagement and corporate governance; and we all have a real passion to care for our watercourses. However, we are a new and small group and local involvement is key to any successful River Trust. We would encourage anyone that has an interest in rivers and aquatic environments to come along and find out what we’re all about, and perhaps get involved.”
