here are those who will tell you, when it comes to good health, life without acupuncture would be pointless.

That it’s all down to the simple fact that, as we all know, this complimentary medicine hurts so good.

Which is why Hillside’s Li Duggan has decided to expand beyong her popular Foxrock clinic and offer her life-enhancing services a little closer to home.

In sunny Delgany, to be precise, at Skin & Body.

“I found more and more clients were travelling to my Foxrock clinic from Gorey, Wicklow Town, Ashford, Greystones and Delgany,” says Li, “so, it just made sense to move the mountain a little closer. We opened in Foxrock in 2019, and it’s been busy from day one. Which is why I’ve taken on another acupuncturist, Dr Zhang, so Delgany and Foxrock can run smoothly…”

Having spent 10 years in a Triple A-rated hospital in her native China, Li came to Ireland on a career break in 2007, hoping to improve her English and experience a different culture. And that she did, falling for a Wicklow lad, Ruadhan, the couple now married with two kids and new arrival, Sammy the dog, having settled in Greystones 16 years ago.

Over those 16 years, Li has kept herself busy, working as a theatre nurse in the Rotunda for ten, where she became increasingly disappointed to learn that Chinese medicine being practiced alongside established medical procedures wasn’t even a consideration.

“I had 10 years of seeing this combination work wonders back in China,” she explains. “Over my years at the Rotunda, I became increasingly convinced of the benefits of acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine for helping treat a range of acute and chronic conditions when working alongside traditional Western medicine.”

And so it was that as the years and the frustration grew, Li decided to move away from being a nurse to qualify as an ACCA chartered accountant. But she couldn’t shake off her passion for acupuncture and the fine art of drug-free pain relief.

It was hardly surprising then that, four years ago, she stepped out on our own to open her Foxrock clinic, which today has over 130 5-star reviews on Google.

Which is pretty darn amazing.

We caught up with Li to find out more about the long and unwinding road to Delgany…
