Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly can confirm a deal has been reached in principle to purchase a site for the new Greystones Primary Care Centre.

The 1.33acre site on Mill Road is being separated out from the wider development of the site being undertaken by Wicklow County Council.

The deal is expected to go before the HSE Board for final approval at the end of May paving the way for the project, which could be opening its doors within three years, to proceed.

Minister Donnelly said: “It’s fantastic news to see real progress being made on the Greystones Primary Care Centre site which has been in the pipeline for years but has struggled to move forward until now. All sides from the council to the HSE have recognised the vital importance of getting the new PCC in place as soon as possible.

“Across Wicklow we have seen the transformative impact the opening of new centres are having on care in the community. The push now is to have more services and better integrated avenues for treatment in the community to reduce the need for people to have to go to hospital.

“There is an enormous need for this facility in Greystones as the town has seen huge growth in recent years but now needs the health infrastructure to be in place to service it.”

The Minister added: “All the pieces are now in place to get this project delivered.

“I’ll be working with the HSE and local community to make sure we get a PCC that is right for the town in place as soon as possible.”
