The apple of my pie

ure, isn’t it a great excuse to get the oul’ face stuffed with pie – and all for free!

Yep, now in its 11th year, the Happy Pear Apple Pie Contest did not disappoint this year.

Starting a little early, the table was already heaving when we swung by at 1.30pm.

And when myself and a very expectant Max returned at 3pm, it was all over bar the fighting over the free slices.

In the adult corner, Mary Ann Kent won for her Apple, Pear & Blackberry Tart, whilst in the kiddie corner, siblings Luca and Leah Gleeson were first across the line.

Which was sweet. Especially given that their mum was one of the judges. The court case happens in January.

Big congrats to everyone involved, and big asses to those who grabbed more than three free slices.

Oh, and the diddley-aye entertainment provided by the O’Flaherty family was fab. Agus groovy.
