King Of The Castle

he sun was out, and so were the curious locals, for historian Michael Doran’s talk on Kindlestown Castle this afternoon.

Running as part of Heritage Week, Michael took those present through 1,000 years of Irish history that swirled around this Greystones landmark ruin.

And it’s a history full of passion, pain, blood, sweat and tea.

From that swine of swines, Oliver Cromwell, to the notorious O’Byrnes and O’Tooles, to one of the country’s most destructive decades, Irish history came alive for the happy crowd gathered today.

And at the centre of it all was Kindlestown Castle. You can read our own half-baked history here.

Making sure the afternoon was that little bit extra-special, members of the Delgany Community Council even brought cake for those present.

Later in the day, Keith Scanlon was leading people on a talk through and a walk around The Hidden Streams Of Delgany.
