aving originally been due to hit our streets before Christmas, the new Bus Connects service will now roll out on Sunday, January 26th.

All going well, of course.

It will mean the end of the original 84 bus route along with later additions the 84a, 84x, 155, 184 and 185.

The reason for the delay in the new bus routes was, says former NTA CEO Anne Graham, down to a difficulty in recruiting drivers and mechanics.

It also didn’t help matters when a new timetable on the Dublin route was greeted with confusion, widespread complaints and the occasional flying pitchfork.

The new services for Bray and North Wicklow is Phase 6a of a wide Bus Connects network redesign, and will include the introduction of new 24-hour E Spines as well as local L routes. That 24-hour E1 will run from Ballywaltrim in Bray to Northwood in Santry.

The new local and Xpress routes will serve Bray, Greystones and Newcastle…

⦿ X2 Newcastle – Kilcoole – Greystones – Brides Glen – City Centre (Hawkins Street)

Three rounds of public consultation on the new network concluded in 2020, and it will now be introduced on a phased basis over the coming months.
