Music Sounds Better With You Two

rom Maui to Hozier, from Mary Coughlan to that mad fecker out of Kila, it’s hard to walk down any street around here without bumping into a musician.

And part of that infestation must certainly lie at the feet of happy, grooving couple Darryn and Elaine Scott.

For the past 16 years, they’ve been teaching this world to sing, to strum, pluck and generally make wonderful music, ensuring that this is one town very much under a groove.

“When we first started out, it was like a little secret club,” says Elaine. “Musicians tend to be on the quieter, more introspective side, but as the years have gone by, that little club has just kept on growing and evolving. And so have these kids…”

“Today, we have 150 pupils currently learning music with us,” nods Darryn, “so that worst kept secret club now feels like an army. These musicians are ready to take on the world, and it’s just amazing to see their progress from these shy kids to someone who can step up in front of hundreds of people and just play…”

With bases at both the Greystones Studios on Theatre Lane and in the funky little cottage attached to Carraig Eden, Darryn and Elaine – and the other four music teachers they have on their team – are hoping to find one big premises to bring all their Harmonic Music School classes together in. Even anyone has an empty mansion handy.

In the meantime, we caught up with the diatonic duo to discuss the joys of helping caterpillars turn into butterflies…
