Social Democrats TD for Wicklow, Jennifer Whitmore, has welcomed confirmation from Iarnród Éireann that the new Woodbrook DART Station will officially open on Saturday, 10th August 2025.

“This is fantastic news for commuters in Bray, Shankill, and the wider North Wicklow area. The opening of Woodbrook Station will provide much-needed public transport access for a growing community that has long been underserved,” Deputy Whitmore explained.

The new station, located between Bray and Shankill, will serve the expanding Woodbrook-Shanganagh Strategic Development Zone (SDZ), including new housing developments and the Shanganagh Castle social and affordable housing project.

“Public transport infrastructure must keep pace with housing development. This station is a vital piece of that puzzle, and its opening will make a real difference to people’s daily lives by reducing car dependency, cutting commute times, and improving connectivity across the region.”

“We need to make sure that this station is not just open, but open to everyone, including people with disabilities, older residents, and families with young children. That means safe walking and cycling routes, reliable bus links, and accessible platforms from day one. It must be accessible to all and integrated with the local bus and cycling infrastructure.”

The station will be served by all DART services operating between Bray and Dublin city, with a journey time of approximately 35 minutes to Pearse Station.

However, Deputy Whitmore cautions that building this infrastructure brings little advantage without the trains to service it.

“This Saturday, DART services will once again not be operating. Iarnród Éireann need to come up with an alternative means of carrying out their essential works and show some flexibility. It’s the hottest weekend of the year so far, and people deserve a functioning public transport system.”
