hat’s the thing about Greystones, you think you know someone, and then it turns out they’ve got a whole other life.

And we’re not talking about that silver fox having affairs all over town.

From renowned playwright and notoriously quiet man Bernard Farrell to The Lad Who Would Be Dustin, not all heroes wear capes. Or t-shirts with their face emblazoned across their chest.

One such Greystonian is Danny O’Connor, a humble EBS manager by day and something of a League Of Ireland football luminary by night.

Having retired from the beautiful game in June 2014 – when he was club captain at Bray Wanderers – O’Connor cut a swathe through League Of Ireland for 15 years. Over that time, he played for everyone from his beloved Wanderers to Drogheda United, Longford Town, Shamrock Rovers and Newry City F.C.

His golden boots moment came on February 8th 2003, when he helped Drogheda survive a relegation play-off against Galway United with a third and crucial goal. In extra time, of course.

Hailing from a family of footballers – brothers James and Kevin also played professionally – Danny made some smart moves off the pitch too, currently captaining the good ship EBS Greystones. When he’s not busy coaching his two football-obsessed sons.
