It’s an 800m path that begins at the Éire sign, and quickly offers up three options on your right to head over to the Bray Head Cross. Which in turn has a handful of paths leading down to the Bray Promenade – or another over to the Southern Cross roundabout, should you rather grab a bus

way through the overgrown briars and branches that have taken over the popular walk since it was officially shut down by Wicklow County Council in February 2021 after a rock slide on the Bray side.
Back then, everyone assumed it would be a matter of weeks, maybe even, at worst, months, before this enormously popular tourist attraction would be reopened.
Red tape, a greedy landowner and a ferocious amount of huffing and puffing at council meetings signifying feck all put heed to any such hike dreams.

There are still one or two spots where you’ll need your wits about you, such as the path thinning beside a landslide at the Greystones end, and a fence now flattened into a cattle-grid.
Basically, if you’re able to park your car in SuperValu on the main street, or run across the road in Delgany without screaming or fainting, you’ll be able to handle The Cliff Walk.
That said, for some, the only remaining upright fence, at the Bray end, might be a little too difficult, given that you have to shimmy under it.
It’s for this very reason that Dermod Dwyer, Peter Murtagh, Adam Kelly, Donal Flynn, Barry McCleary and Hugh and Georgia Gallagher have spent months reopening an ancient part of The Cliff Walk that led people up to the then Cliff House Hotel (now Cliff Manor, neighbouring the Gorse Hill Centre).

Huge thanks to all who cleared the pathway and two fibgers to WCC for doing F all but scratching their large arses and doing nothing , sham on them ,
When will our deputy Prime minister act , and force the council to take action in a timely fashion .
It’s frightening to think also , population has grown rapidly last 10-15 years yet they operate in a parallel universe to us all , no planning on road infrastructure improvements to cope no nothing from them , there still in 1950 s mode !
Have to confess I never park at that SuperValu car park because it’s too scary. But I can cross the road in Delgany. Looking forward to giving the Cliff Walk a go. Many thanks for your reporting.
Many thanks for your reporting and your support Paul
As I read this, the most prominent thoughts I had is how wonderful and proactive the people of Ireland are !! It’s awesome to see that when a few brave souls decide to do something collectively… It’s done ! Congrats to the team.
Is it the old cliff walk that is back.
Tonto, there’s a map. And an article. Right there. Explaining that there is now the option of a cleared diversion along The Cliff Walk via The Bray Head Cross that keeps you on Bray Head so that you don’t have to limbo dance under a fence at the Bray end of the walk anymore. We can meet you there in an hour to explain by pointing.
