hen it came to their salacious tales of local vagabonds, chickenstealers, pig fanciers, Frankenstein Freisians and disco grans, Anthony and Padraig Farrelly had one simple rule.
They wouldn’t say anything about anyone local unless they could say something good.
Farrelly’s 1970s
“And the story we have for you today,” Anthony would always add, “is really, really good…”
Yep, when it comes to charting the folk history around here, the Farrelly brothers are in a somewhat unique position, having spent the last 31 years front-of-house at a 157-year-old Delgany butchers that their dad ran before them for 32 years. Add to that their wilderness years behind the bar at Greystones’ original of the nightclub species, Cabana’s, and these lads have seen and heard things that could easily warp a young mind.
As can be witnessed at Farrelly’s Of Delgany every Tuesday to Saturday.
Approach with caution.
And a big stick.
When it comes to their particular folk history of Greystones, Delgany and beyond, the lads can weave a tale though. Whether it’s OAPs looking for the VIPtreatment at Cabana’s, those Carmelite nuns quite possibly pulling a fast and feathered one, not being able to make a compensation claim against Teflon stick, or dodging legendary milkman John Nolan’s eggcellent aim, all the low forms of human life are here.
And there’s plenty more where that came from, with 12 fizzy & fantastical Farrelly fables plus some family history and a 60th birthday celebration, all right about here.
