s with so many wonderful ideas, the town’s great big raffle for the people of Ukraine was born in something of a whirlwind.

Initially starting out as just one business with one prize, in less than five hours, there were over 50 businesses, and close to 100 prizes.

“The response was immediate, and amazing,” says Susan Collins, the bright spark that lit the fundraising raffle. “To the point that I quickly had to call in the help of Marlena Murphy and Ann Teehan. And even then, it was like trying to fly 50 kites in a storm as we pulled all the names and the prizes together…”

And what initially was going to be one pretty darn amazing prize became five pretty darn amazing prizes, given the warehouse-load of goodies pouring in.

“And the prizes are still arriving,” laughs Susan. “The closing date to buy a ticket is Sunday 27th, at midnight, and our list just keeps on growing…”

Which means that the full list of prizes, and all the wonderful businesses that donated, will be officially announced on Tuesday. As those five lucky winners are presented with their spoils.

“It’s just €10 for a ticket, and we’ve already hit €7,000 here,” finishes Susan. “Our aim is €10,000 by Sunday midnight. And this being Greystones, I’m sure we’re going to hit that mark…”
