Archers Wood residents gathered for a Go Slow day on Saturday, July 20th to raise awareness and encourage drivers to reduce their speed while passing through the new estate.

The rise in traffic poses a serious risk, particularly to the many young children who live there, and after a number of close calls with speeding drivers, residents took matters into their own hands and organised Saturday’s Go Slow Day to urge drivers to slow down and ensure that Archers Wood remains a safe environment for all residents.

Ciaran Malone, organiser of Go Slow Day, said: “I am delighted with the turnout, especially on such a wet July day. The numbers show how important this matter is to all residents.

“This initiative aims to send a clear message that speeding through our estate is unacceptable and can have devastating consequences. Speeding may save a minute of your time but it could cost a life.”

Community Garda Maria Curtis added: “It is fantastic to see this initiative come to life in Archers Wood. Road safety is a growing concern in communities throughout the country and it is great to see it being championed by Archers Wood residents.”
