Peter & Finn 11SEPT17

Peter & Finn 11SEPT17
he cool thing about starting a new football team right about now is
that, a quick whip-round in the pub, and you’d probably have the Bray Wanderers’ troubled grounds by Tuesday.
Recognising that the already booming football scene in Greystones was basically too big for the existing clubs to handle, Pete got together with some other smart parents – Samantha Finnerty, Siobhan Brereton, Siobhan Smith, Jane Baxter and do-gooder Jennifer Whitmore – to try and help those kids who hadn’t yet found any room at the inn.
That was just last Wednesday, and already Sporting Greystones FC are getting ready to play in the Wicklow League next week. They just need, you know, to get some gear.
All they need now are a few Sporting Greystones FC tops so that the players don’t end up passing the ball to a suddenly bewildered kid eating crisps on the sidelines. Already on board when it comes to that much-need sponsorship are The Happy Pear, Brereton Carpets and Total Event, whilst Peter’s own animation company, createschool.ie, have paid out for the team’s insurance.
If you’d like to get involved, and help the team get match-ready, you can email the guys and girls on [email protected]. Just do it now. Rather than tomorrow. There’s an important match coming up.
We caught up with Peter and his son, Finn, as they had a kickabout on what will hopefully be their main pitch in the coming months and years, up behind GG HQ in sunny Kindlestown, to talk tactics, teamwork and teaching kids the importance of ganging up on your opponents…
