he Greystones Cancer Support’s annual coffee morning for Daffodil Day made a welcome return today.
Having had to raise a cuppa at home for the past two years, this morning the snacks and the people were in glorious 3D.
Among ’em was Jennifer Whitmore TD, who said, “It was wonderful to meet key community groups which are so active on the issue of cancer. Cancer affects so many of our families in Wicklow and supporting those affected by it has been at the centre of Greystones Cancer Support and the Greystones Active Retirement Association.”
Young Jen also pointed out the high cost financially as well as emotionally, with hospital fees, unemployment, parking fees and beyond hitting families hard. “It is time that the Government really looks seriously into reducing the financial burden on families facing cancer, especially with rising fuel prices and the cost of living…”
Fittingly enough, the theme for the day is taking back from cancer, and for the organisers (which also included the Greystones Active Retirement Association gang), coming together to press the flesh after two long years made for an emotional moment.
More importantly though, there were cakes. And biscuits. And John McGowan, with his trusty camera…
